Outreach
Members of the VLoND lab participate in various outreach programs every year to ensure community embeddedness. We participate in the following yearly events to both get the new generation excited about our research and to help raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease.
ASU Open Door at the Biodesign Institute
This annual event brings thousands of adults and children from the community to explore the ASU campus and participate in myriad interactive exhibits and activities showcasing the innovations that normally occur inside laboratories, classrooms, etc. The Velazquez lab volunteered in 2020 with brain hats, custom coloring postcards, and presentations on the lab’s research and Alzheimer’s disease in general.
Alzheimers' Association - Volunteers in the Annual "Walk to End Alzheimer's" and the "A love not forgotten Gala" for the Desert Southwest Chapter
Since 2016, Dr. Velazquez and members of the lab have participated in the annual "A love not forgotten Gala" and the Phoenix AZ "Walk to End Alzheimer's Disease" to raise funds and awareness to fight against this devastating disease.
